Need to strengthen fisheries sector: Faldessai
Panaji: Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai has stressed on strengthening the fisheries sector in the state.
He was speaking during an inspection of the net mending shed at Golwada, Cumbarjua.
Local Sarpanch Nandakumar Shet, Director of Fisheries Department Deepesh Priolkar, Deputy Director Megha Kerkar and other government officials were also present.
Faldessai assured that the shed will be renovated prior to monsoon. He also said that work will soon commence on the construction of the fishing ramp.
“This project will enhance our fishing infrastructure and benefit our fishermen. The locals are dependent on this shed; hence we will get it repaired. We aim to complete the work before the onset of the monsoon, provided all sanctions and approvals are in place. An estimate has been prepared that will be submitted to the department,” he said.
The MLA also called for upliftment of the agriculture sector, pointing out that he has been at the forefront to assist farmers and undertake works like repairs of bunds, etc other aspects.
“Our farmers are working hard to cultivate our fields. We need to support them in every way. Be it fishermen or farmers who are self-employed, we must ensure that all help is rendered to mitigate their problems. We will see that the concerns of this 2 communities are addressed on priority,” he added.
