Sarpanch Sequeira accused the previous panchayat body for encouraging the ODP and refuted the allegations made by menezes by stating that the panchayat had even filed a petition against the old ODP but the petition had been subsequently withdrawn by the next panchayat body five years ago.
Prem divkar also called for the scrapping of the sewerage treatment plant at Baga and describe it as ‘total failure’ Sequeira said the panchayat members were shocked when they visited the STP some months ago and found that it was releasing untreated sewage into Baga river and action will be taken Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira informed the gram sabha that the panchayat was kept in the dark about the proposed pipeline, adding that he had also heard about the moves to do so.
“We were not called for the meeting where the proposal was discussed. The MLA made the statement at his level and I have written to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and other authorities that we are objecting to it,” the Sarpanch said.
on the issue of parking of heavy buses at the calangute association ground sarpanch said they will appoint a contractor to tow away such vehicles and and will see that the the ground is maintained as a play ground . Premanad Divkar raised the issue about the release of sewerage water into deep sea which will destroy the marine ecosystem another issue which was raised at the gram sabha was about the the non function the electricity sub station in Calangute the sarpanch said that they will try and get the issue resolved . adding that they have met the engineer to find a solution to it .
another villager Anthony Dsouza raised the issue about the faulty fencing put up in front of the church to prevent stray cattle from coming towards the road adding that the fencing was creating a problem to the vehicles.to this the sarpanch said that an immediate solution will be found to the issue
