Vocational Appreciation Awards – Honouring Women Achievers by Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera
PANAJI: 15th February 2024, Remarkable women, breaking stereotypes in profession. Traditionally considered to be a man’s domain. “By awarding them, we are encouraging them and inspiring other women to take up such professions” says, Rtn. Denzil Xavier, President of Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera
Our team of Rtn. Maithili Nadkarni and Rtn. Clare De Souza, Vocational Service Directors, identified 9 dynamic ladies, and they were felicitated today at the hands of Smt. Deepali Naik, Project Director DRDA, South, Govt. of Goa. and Ms. Fiona Cardozo, Dy Director of Panchayats, North.
The ladies are:
1. Christie Dias – Plumber : A national-level volleyball player and now a plumber,
2. Harsha Naik – Lifeguard : Hailing from Bicholim, 26-year-old Harsha Naik comes from a family of swimmers.
3. Kanchan Naik Vengurlekar – Ex. Asst. Police inspector
4. Disha Naik – Aerodrome Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) Crash Tender Operator : She has become India’s first certified woman firefighter to operate a crash fire tender (CFT).
5. Sasha Saldanha – Captain Indigo Airlines from Parra village in North Goa
6. Shilpa Vantekar – Pink Auto Driver from Corlim
7. Shabeena Shaikh – 2 Wheeler Mechanic from village of Socorro
8. Shweta Gaonkar Agriculturist & Toddy Tapper Sanguem-based she has a BA in agriculture.
9. Joaquina Perpetual Castellino – Elderly Care Giver Age 74yrs from Guirim Bardez Goa
Our Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera has a rich history of impactful projects and initiatives, ranging from education and healthcare to environmental conservation and community development. Events like today’s Vocational Appreciation Awards reflect our dedication to recognizing and celebrating excellence in diverse vocations.
In the past months, we have honoured and felicitated Renowned Teachers from the music fraternity of Goa as well as Special Educators from Sanjay Centre for Special Children, showcasing our commitment to excellence in various fields. We have also bestowed honours upon notable individuals and institutions for their exceptional dedication to the Goan art of Mando and their efforts in nurturing emerging talents and championing Goa’s cultural heritage. Beyond organizing numerous career guidance and training workshops for college students, the Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera remains steadfast in its commitment.
