Panaji: Sporting Clube de Goa forward Lloyd Cardozo is rediscovering his form with the state team at the National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy in Arunachal Pradesh.
Lloyd scored a gem of a goal in Goa’s 2-1 comeback win against Delhi in the quarterfinals on Monday.
Goa were stunned when Delhi took an early lead, but Jobern Cardozo equalised in the 20th minute and then Lloyd finished with a stunning half volley after a corner from Mahammed Faheez which proved decisive.
“We all believed in ourselves to overcome from this situation. The mood in the team is very good right from the start. All credit to teamwork,” said Lloyd.
Goa last won the Santosh Trophy in 2009 and were runners-up in the 2017 edition at home. They will now meet the winners of Manipur and Assam for the semi-final clash on Thursday at 7pm.
The 24-year-old from Raia has always shown his impressive work rate, be at for Sporting or Goa. He scored three times now in the final round and has an assist to his name. And he won’t stop there.
“I am feeling really good right now. Got my goalscoring touch back, thanks to the coaching staff for believing in me,” said Lloyd.
Lloyd will be back with Sporting after the Santosh Trophy and hopes to continue his fine form in the I-League 2 where Sporting are third in the standings with 10 points from six games.
Besides Lloyd, Sporting goalkeeper Dylan Da Silva, midfielder Dattaraj Gaonkar and captain Joel Colcao are part of the Goa squad.
Sporting will commence the second phase on March 24 away against Sporting Club Bengaluru, followed by another two away games against Sudeva Delhi FC (March 30) and Kenkre FC (April 2).
Sporting will return to play their home game against FC Bengaluru United FC on April 6 at Tilak Maidan, Vasco.
