Venkatesh Shirodkar was elected unopposed as Sarpanch of Thivim Panchayat in the meeting held held on Friday . The post of sarpanch had fallen vacant after a no-confidence motion was passed against former sarpanch Arjun Aroskar. Deputy sarpanch Harshata Kalangutkar was given charge of the post of the sarpanch.
Venkatesh Shirodkar’s sole application was submitted for the post of Sarpanch as the opposition faction of Thivim Panchayat, which has 11 Panchayat members, was not present. Returning Officer Murari Varadkarai announced that Venkatesh Shirodkar was elected unopposed by a vote of 6 to 0. Deputy Sarpanch Harshata Kalangutkar, panchayat members Michael Fernandes, Shivdas Kambli, Geeta Shelke, and Preeti Arolkar attended the meeting held at the Panchayat office for the selection of the new Sarpanch post.
Newly elected sarpanch Venkatesh Shirodkar said that renovation of Thivim football ground will be given first priority. Since many years many football competitions are held at Thivim Football Ground. As the Thivim football ground is very old, many football players from the Thivim panchayat area have exhibited their skills and won in the inter-state competition. Newly elected Sarpanch Venkatesh Shirodkar said that all efforts will be made to renovate the Thivim football ground to encourage the young footballers in the Thivim panchayat area.
