Canacona: Hundreds of Canconcar’s revelled in the annual Shigmotsav Floats held late Tuesday evening in the commercial town of Chaudi even as maximum participants including Chitrarath, Romtamel, Folk Dances enthralled the crowd.
The Shigmotsav-2024 was earlier flagged off at the hands of Department of Arts & Culture Director Sagun Velip in the presence of Canacona Dy. Collector Madhu Narvekar, Canacona Municipal Council Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar, Department of Agriculture Dy. Directors Chandrahas Dessai and Nagesh Komarpant, Canacona Shigmotsav-2024 Mandal Working president Babesh Borkar, Secretary Sidharth Dessai, and Treasurer Subhash Mahale, amongst several prominent residents of Canacona.
Besides showing off the flag, balloons were released in the sky at the hands of guests as the shigmo floats parade began at the sounds of Dhol and Ghumats at Char-Rasta, on Tuesday evening.
There was a little commotion at the end of the floats parade as one Romtamel was delayed for 20-25 minutes beyond the permissible timing of 10 pm, scheduled to wind up the event. While Canacona Dy. Collector Madhu Narvekar was persuading the Romtamell to hurry up and complete their already delayed parade quickly when someone from the Romtamell group came charging at the Dy. The collector stated they had come all the way from a distant town, and they should be allowed to complete their parade in normal circumstances. Quickly, the Police intervened and prevented the situation from getting out of hand.
With the Code of Conduct in force for Lok Sabha polls, this year’s Shigmotsav sponsored by the Government is organised by the Tourism Department in association with Canacona Municipal Council and Canacona Shigmosthav Mandal.
So, CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naigaunkar, Vice-Chairperson Narcisco Fernandes, most councillors, some Sarpanchas and Panch members from a few Village panchayats stayed away from the inauguration venue and also from the concluding function, but watched the floats parade from different places along the route from Char-Rasta to Chaudi.
The different floats which began at Char-Rasta ventured on the NH66 via Nagarcem culminating in front of the program Stage at KTC Bus-Stand, where a team of Judges also rated the various performances.
For the first time, Canacona Shigmosthav Mandal presented an All-Women Romtamel as a Special attraction at the Canacona Shigmotsav Floats Parade, where over 120 women drawn from all over the taluka led by CMC Ex- Ex-Chairperson Prasthana Ramakant Naikgaonkar and a Teacher Shubhangi B Borkar took part in the team performance of by Women mostly drawn from all the 12 municipal Wards of Canacona
