Will fight for political reservation for women at 2027 assembly polls: Khalap
Panaji: Vowing to protect the dignity of women, INDIA bloc’s North Goa candidate Adv Ramakant Khalap said that he will fight to implement the one-third political reservation for women at the 2027 state assembly elections.
Addressing a gathering in Cumbarjua Khalap said, “As Finance Minister of Goa, I had formed a special component. However, not a single proposal of mine has been implemented by the subsequent governments. Women have not been spared. So many rape cases are being reported, accidents are taking places as well as murders,” he said.
“This is the fight between us, the Pandavas, and the BJP who are the Kauravas. Let us don the mantle of ‘Krishna’ to protect women against the atrocities, and fight against the indiscriminate sale of land. Let us protect the rights of the tenants. Let us give forest rights to the tribals. Let us fight to give one-third political reservation for women at the 2027 state assembly elections. I will raise these issues in Parliament. I shall be your voice. We must get our rights. I will not allow injustice against you,” Khalap emphasised.
Aldona MLA and coordinator for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat, Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira said that if elected, Khalap will raise burning issues like Mhadei, double tracking, hill cutting, etc, in the Parliament.
“We don’t want people who are out to finish the state, who want to make fast money. We need to protect the state and hence we need to vote for Ramakant Khalap. We need to send him to Parliament to amplify our voice,” he said.
Opposition leader Yuri Alemao said that the Constitution was framed to ensure equal rights for people of all religions.
“However, one BJP MP from Karnataka has said that once we cross 400 Lok Sabha seats, we will change the Constitution. Today, there are attempts by the BJP government to divide people on religious lines. The Pramod Sawant government is scared. We are united under the INDIA bloc to protect Goa,” he said.
