Porvorim woman cheated fraudulently to the tune of Rs 2.71 lakh

Two people have been charged in relation to the deception of a Porvorim woman who was asked to invest in the stock market, resulting in her being tricked out of Rs 2.71 lakh.

according to Police the fraud occurred sometime between January 17 and February 8, when Azim Singh and Manali Shah, the two accused, approached the complainant under false pretenses of being an assistant professor and professor of an online institute.

The accused persuaded the woman to download an app, deposit Rs 2.71 lakh into an account, and trade and purchase shares on the Indian stock market.

But the woman was unable to take her money out of the investment or trade stocks. She reported the fraud to the Porvorim police as soon as she realized she had been duped.

Porvorim police filed a case on Saturday against the two suspects in accordance with Information and Technology Act Sections 66 D and 419 and 420 of the IPC. Further investigation is being carried out by Police Inspector Ditendra Naik.
