Resurvey of Goa’s lands overdue: Faldessai

PANAJI: Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Friday sought a resurvey of Goa’s lands, which he said was long overdue, since the last survey was conducted in 1976, which he said needs updating.

“In 1976 the survey was done. Things have moved on since then. There has been landslides, erosion, the structures have changed. Is Goa’s boundary the same? There is new technology now available, where measurements were done automatically. Earlier they used to take a tape and measure. It needs to be done again,” Faldessai said.

“If you go from Anmod Ghat you can see a structure where people coming from Karnataka have to show their passports. But today that structure falls on the Karnataka side of the border. We are losing land like this,” he added.

Faldessai moved the resolution to urge the Government that the Inspectorate of Survey and Land Records carries out a comprehensive survey of the State and brings on record the changes if any, in terms of its boundaries and/or any structures constructed therein. The last time such an exercise was done was in 1976 and thereafter no such comprehensive attempts were made and the common man has to still rely on old cadastral survey maps.

However, after an assurance from Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Faldessai withdrew his resolution.
