Faldessai demands funds for cultural festivals in Cumbarjua constituency
PANAJI: Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai demanded the Art and Culture and Sports Minister Govind Gaude release monies for the celebration of world famous cultural festivals that take place annually in his constituency while lamenting that the constituency remains neglected despite several proposals, notes and other petitions sent to the minister for release of funds.
Speaking during the discussion on demands for grants of the Art and Culture and Sports departments, Faldessai said that the department should release at least 30-lakh for the celebration of Sangodd in Cumbarjua and another 15-lakh for the Bonderam celebration in Divar.
“Sangodd we need 25-30 lakh money to spend. It is one of the most famous and most popular in Goa and 25,000 -30,000 people come there. For now, we get just Rs 1.5 lakh and we put some of our own money and celebrate it. But if we have to take it to the next level then we need the money,” Faldessai said.
“Similarly for the Bonderam we need 15-lakh for the small and big Bonderam. We saw how the tourism department spent money on the chikol kalo festival. We need something similar for Cumbarjua,” he said.
“We had sent a proposal for the last time too. Don’t disappoint us,” he said.
He also demanded that the department work towards the setting up of a a Kala Mandir or a Kala Bhavan. “Our artists are the best. We have no place to hold the functions. We will find the land for you,” he said.
Faldessai concluded his demands by seeking grounds in Cumbarjua, Divar, St Estevam, where the youth of the village can play and hone their skills.
