PANAJI: The North Goa Collector, Ms Sneha Jite, passed an order to demolish the Portuguese Era building which was in a precarious condition and posing danger to the general public like pedestrians and motorists passing from that side as the building was located on such a spot that it was facing road from three sides and public mobility was too much.
The Collector passed the order to demolish the building after inspecting it yesterday and had cordoned off the area since Tuesday and had even posted the police personnel to divert the motorised traffic. According to the members of the general public and other shopkeepers in the vicinity stated that the building came crashing down in the wee hours of Friday and its mud and rubble spread onto the road and blocked the road from two sides public and motorised traffic.
While the tenant who was running a carpentry since 1951 revealed that the landlord of the building came to them yesterday and stated that “now you are no more my tenants and served them the court notice and also added that till date he had never told them anything adding that other tenants who were occupants had already knocked the door of the court for justice. He alleged that land mafia is involved in its demolition.
