Panaji, August 2024: The Serendipity Arts Festival (SAF) 2024 is on the lookout for six choreographers to empathetically address contemporary issues such as climate and environment change, war, migration, among others, as part of ‘Folios of Time’, a module aimed at providing expression through somatic movements to the multiple challenges faced by individuals and communities.
The SAF 2024 has also issued another open call for three Indian artists to explore the relationship between motherhood and the external world through knitting meshwork in ‘M(Other)Hood’.
The deadlines for submission of the applications for both categories are August 17 for ‘Folios of Time’ and August 22 for ‘M(Other)Hood’.
Curated by the SAF 2024 Dance discipline co-curator Jayachandran Palazhy, ‘Folios of Time’ encourages emerging choreographers to express through somatic movements the multiple challenges faced by individuals and communities, such as climate and environmental change, war, migration, displacement, existential dilemmas, gender issues and more, in an empathetic manner.
The six selected choreographers will then undergo an intense choreography residency in Bengaluru from December 3 to 14, 2024, mentored by acclaimed Italian artists, choreographer Damiano Ottavio Bigi and dramaturge Alessandra Paoletti and interact with renowned Japanese digital artist Kunihiko Matsuo.
‘M(Other)Hood’, an ongoing project that commenced in 2021 to explore expansive forms of solidarity through the concept of ‘motherhood’ and ‘mothering’, is being hosted by SAF this year. To contribute to this project, SAF 2024 is developing a performance, ‘Uncollected Collective Lectures – 2024’ and invites three Indian collaborators to join. The selected individuals will develop their respective performative lectures drawing from personal experiences and contexts, exploring experimental approaches to autobiography, history, herstory and their story.
