Lifesavers Prevent Suicide at Galgibagh, Conduct Double Rescue Off Mandrem Beach
Panaji: September 30 — Lifesavers posted at the Galgibagh beach in south Goa rescued a 25-year-old man, who was in the midst of attempting suicide in the nearby river, even as two persons were rescued from drowning off Mandrem beach in north Goa.
According to Drishti Marine officials, a local resident informed lifesavers posted at the beach, about a person attempting suicide in the Galgibagh river, located nearby. When Drishti Marine lifesavers reached the spot, the person had already jumped into the water, forcing lifesavers Ganapati Bhute and Parshuram Pagi to follow suit. The lifesavers rescued him from drowning in the river, before handing him over to the local police.
In another incident off Mandrem beach, two middle-aged persons — a 40-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman — were rescued from drowning after they were caught in a rip current nearly 500 metres in the deep sea. After spotting the duo in trouble, lifesaver Suraj Keluskar rushed into the water with a rescue tube and brought the persons ashore to safety.
