Diwali Weekend Rescue Efforts: Drishti Marine Saves 51 Lives
Panaji: In a remarkable display of bravery and quick thinking, Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued 51 people from drowning off Goa’s beaches during the extended Diwali weekend. The team also successfully intervened in a suicide attempt at Patnem beach, saving the life of a 17-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh ¹.
At Patnem beach, lifesavers Nagraj Girap and Sameer Kankonkar rushed to save the teenager, utilizing a surfboard and jet ski to bring him ashore. Meanwhile, at Majorda beach, lifesaver Mayur Lahane rescued a water sports operator whose boat had capsized due to sudden weather changes ¹.

– 8 double rescues
– 2 triple rescues
– 3 multiple rescues (more than three lives saved)
Some notable rescues include: Baga Beach where in Five women were rescued from a rip current by lifesavers Saurabh Kumar, Fondu Gawas, Buddaji, and Sainath Gawas. At Calangute Beach: Lifesaver Nakul Usapkar rescued three individuals from Karnataka, while lifesavers Vinod Salelkar, Sanjay Yadav, and Umesh Madhaikar saved three men from Maharashtra also there were Multiple Rescues where in Four men from Nagpur and Delhi were rescued after being caught in a rip current.
In addition to the rescues, Drishti Marine lifesavers also traced four missing children on Baga and Calangute beaches, reuniting them with their parents ¹.
