Panaji’s Smart Waste Management Solutions Take Center Stage at Swachhata Margdarshak Training Programme
Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd. (IPSCDL) recently showcased Panaji’s innovative waste management solutions at the Swachhata Margdarshak Training Programme, held on November 18-19, 2024 ¹. This initiative aims to empower Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across Goa and India with the knowledge and tools to drive sustainable waste management.
The event was Organized by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), GIZ, and All India Institute of Local Self-Government (AIILSG) the Attendees included Representatives from Port Blair, Kerala, State Mission for Clean Ganga, and ULBs across Goa the event also included attendes from the Goa State Pollution Control Board Auditorium
The Swachhata Margdarshak Programme, a cornerstone of Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 (SBM 2.0), equips Margdarshaks with skills and tools to lead waste management initiatives in their cities. This program addresses unique challenges in urban waste management, particularly in vulnerable coastal regions, aligning with India’s goal of creating Garbage-Free Cities.
Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues, IPSCDL MD & CEO, emphasized the transformative power of simple innovation and community-driven solutions in urban waste management. Mr. Sebastian Markart, Project Director of CCPME at GIZ, highlighted the program’s collaborative approach and its impact on driving meaningful change.
Participants visited Goa’s flagship waste management facilities, including Saligao Integrated Waste Facility Municipal Market Composting Unit, Panaji St. Inez Trash Barrier, Panaji and Heera Biomethanation Facility, Panaji
These visits provided hands-on experience with waste segregation, composting, and biogas production, offering practical models for replication across cities.
