CALANGUTE WELCOMES NEW BIODIVERSITY RESOURCE CENTRE
Calangute: The Village Panchayat of Calangute inaugurated its new Biodiversity Management Committee Community Seed Bank & Biodiversity Resource Centre on Monday, December 2, 2024. The ceremony took place at 11:00 am at the Village Panchayat Building, Calangute.
The centre was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Pradip Sarmokadam, Member Secretary, Goa State Biodiversity Board, Mr. Joseph Sequeira, Sarpanch, Village Panchayat Calangute, Mr. Arjun Velip, Member Secretary, BMC Calangute, and Mr. Benedict Lobo, Chairman, BMC, Calangute.
The new centre aims to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods in the region. The Community Seed Bank will conserve and promote local crop diversity, while the Biodiversity Resource Centre will serve as a hub for awareness and education on biodiversity conservation.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Pradip Sarmokadam emphasized the importance of biodiversity conservation and the role of community-led initiatives in achieving this goal.
The centre is located on the 1st floor of the Village Panchayat Building, Calangute, and will be open to the public from Monday to Friday.
The inauguration ceremony marked an important milestone in Calangute’s efforts to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
