NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION PASSED AGAINST BARDESH BAZAAR CO-OP SOCIETY PRESIDENT
Mapusa, December 9, 2024
In a dramatic turn of events, the Board of Directors of the Bardesh Bazaar Cooperative Society passed a no-confidence motion against its President, Nikhilchandra Khalap, by a margin of 6-5 votes. The motion was filed by seven directors who had submitted a notice prior to the meeting.
This development is seen as a significant setback for Khalap, who has led the society for some time. The no-confidence motion is likely to lead to a change in leadership, as the society faces several challenges. Members are expected to meet soon to discuss the next course of action.
The passing of the no-confidence motion is viewed as a victory for the rebel group of directors, who demanded changes in the society’s management. Khalap had not sought the chairmanship but was unanimously offered the position to bring stability to the institution. He had initiated the mall project and opposed joint ventures and property sales, which some directors intended to pursue.
