Pickleball to Debut in Goa: BPS Sports Club to Host State’s First Major Ranking Championship
Panaji, December 2024 — Pickleball, one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, is set to make its debut in Goa in early January 2025. The prestigious BPS Sports Club in Margao will host the state’s first-ever All Goa Major Ranking State Pickleball Championship in association with the Goa Pickleball Association and All India Pickleball Association (AIPA).
Scheduled from January 3 to 5, 2025, the championship will bring together pickleball enthusiasts from across the state to compete in various categories, including men’s and women’s open (singles and doubles), men’s 35+ and 50+ (singles and doubles), mixed doubles (open), and mixed doubles (35+).
Registrations for the championship are open until December 20, 2024, offering an opportunity for players of all skill levels to participate in one of the fastest-growing sports globally.
“Pickleball is a game for everyone,” said Yogiraj Kamat, President of BPS Sports Club, Margao. “Whether you’re a seasoned player or trying a paddle sport for the first time, this is the perfect opportunity to pick up the paddle and experience the thrill.”
To familiarize potential participants with the sport, BPS Sports Club will conduct a free introductory workshop at its premises in Margao on December 22, 2024, from 3:30 pm onwards. The workshop will be conducted by Coach Willy and will cover the fundamentals of pickleball.
“Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, making it a unique and accessible paddle sport,” said Manguirish Kunde, Secretary of BPS Sports Club, Margao. “Its easy-to-learn rules and dynamic gameplay have made it a global phenomenon, drawing millions to the courts worldwide.”
The organizing committee members, including Manguirish Kunde, Nihaal Borkar, Anup Sardesai, Ninad Kamat, Wilfred Jaques, and Lincoln Furtado, are working tirelessly to ensure the event’s success and maximum participation.
The debut of pickleball in Goa highlights the growing popularity of the sport in the state and celebrates the rich heritage of BPS Sports Club in promoting sporting events. The upcoming championship promises an action-packed event filled with competitive matches and camaraderie, giving players and fans of the new sport alike a chance to immerse themselves in the sport while contributing to the rich sporting culture of Goa.
