Margao: The final league matches of the MCC Members Cricket League T20 saw thrilling victories for MCC Warriors and MCC Masters over MCC Legends and MCC Dragons, respectively. With their win, MCC Masters clinched the top spot on the points table with 12 points from 7 matches, while MCC Dragons settled for second place after their defeat. Match 1: MCC Warriors vs MCC Dragons
In the first match, MCC Dragons won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision that proved costly. They stumbled early, losing three key wickets for just 10 runs by the third over, including star batsmen Om Fadte and Sudesh Rane. Despite the early collapse, captain Vaibhav Naik’s counterattacking 38 off 27 balls (4 fours, 1 six) and Aditya Prabhugaonkar’s steady 23 rescued the Dragons, adding a crucial 58 runs for the sixth wicket. However, the lower order faltered, and the Dragons were restricted to 128/9.
For MCC Warriors, the bowling unit shone, with Raghuvir Kuncolienkar (2/16), Sunny Kamat (2/11), and Vrushab Kuncolienkar (2/18) dismantling the Dragons’ lineup.
Chasing 129, Warriors got off to a flying start thanks to a 70-run partnership in 7 overs between captain Govind Lotliker (38 off 26, 4 fours, 2 sixes) and Sunny Kamat (24). Contributions from Vrushab Kuncolienkar (17) and Sudip Phaldesai (16* not out) helped Warriors seal the win in 18.5 overs, with five wickets in hand.
Dragons’ bowlers struggled to make an impact, with Mrinmay Das picking up 2 wickets, while Om Fadte and Ankush Patil claimed a wicket each. Sunny Kamat was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round brilliance.
Match 2: MCC Masters vs MCC Legends
In the second match, MCC Masters chose to bat first and posted an imposing total of 171/10 in 20 overs. Opener Anup Kudchadkar gave a fiery start with 28 runs off 16 balls (4 fours, 1 six), while Vikrant Prabhu anchored the innings with a solid 37 off 27 balls (3 fours, 1 six). Contributions from Sanjay Netravalkar (27) and Balkrishna Hodarkar (17) ensured a challenging target for the Legends.
For MCC Legends, Vasudev Kundaiker (2/20) and Sidharth Desai (2/23) were the pick of the bowlers.
Chasing 172, MCC Legends struggled to keep pace with the run rate. Openers Amod Borkar (32 off 35) and Vasudev Kundaiker (35 off 43) provided a steady start, but the middle order failed to accelerate. Legends ended at 117/7 in their 20 overs, falling short by 60 runs. MCC Masters’ bowlers were clinical, with Paul Fernandes, Balkrishna Hodarkar, Sagar Ekoskar, and Apoorva Bhembre each taking a wicket.
