CYCLING: STEFAN BENNETT WINS THE TOUR in Martinique
The 43rd edition of the Tour has come to an end, and it’s already time to take stock. After Edwin Nubul’s (VCF) beautiful victory at home this Sunday in François, Stefan Bennett of Jeunesse cycliste 231 du Robert was able to savor his victory on the Tour with his teammates.
Bennett, who wore the yellow jersey as leader, had set his sights on this goal throughout the competition. At times, he was in the slipstream of Jules Chatelon (Nippo EF-Martigues) and especially Damien Urcel (Guadeloupe selection), but the Robertin rider did not disappoint.
The Guadeloupéens gave him a run for his money until the end, even in the multiple ascents of Morne Pitault. In the end, Bennett won the Tour in 24 hours, 24 minutes, and 36 seconds, just 7 seconds ahead of Damien Urcel. Jules Chatelon logically completed the podium, 1 minute and 3 seconds behind.
The Martiniquais Eddy-Michel Cadet-Marthe (7th, last year’s winner), Edwin Nubul (8th), and Marc Flavien (10th) all finished in the top 10.
