Madinina Longboard Festival: A Weekend of Thrilling Performances
: This past weekend, the Madinina Longboard Festival, also known as the French Longboard Open, drew a large crowd to Anse l’Étang in Trinité. According to the Madinina Surf Club, the competitors delivered high-quality performances.
The festival took place in La Trinité, with participants from France and the overseas territories. The Anse l’Étang spot offered good conditions throughout the weekend, with waves ranging from 80 cm to 1.5 meters, and relatively favorable but technically demanding conditions.
The event was prepared to welcome 60 longboarders from all over the island, Guadeloupe, Réunion, and beyond. Some of the best 9-foot practitioners from Vendée or Aquitaine also participated. According to Erwann Jadé from the Madinina Surf Club, “Everyone was smiling as they came out of the water, as if pleasure had taken over the stakes, and yet the show was grandiose.”
Impressive Performances
In the men’s Open final, Noah Lamarche (Madinina Surf Club), the recent 2024 French junior champion, sought to perform on his local spot. However, the competition was fierce: Max Jamet (Landes), Hypolite Champion (Guadeloupe), and Timothée Constant (Charente-Maritime) pushed the Martinican to give his best.
The final was marked by remarkable commitment and technique from the four surfers, each obtaining a wave with over 9 points. Noah Lamarche notably performed two perfectly executed hang-ten on a wave, allowing him to score a perfect 10 points. With a total of 19.5 points, he won the final, while Timothée Constant took second place with 18.53 points, and Max Jamet took third with 18.13 points. Hypolite Champion obtained a wave with 9.3 points and a total of 13.47 points.
The Open category longboarders also delivered an impressive show. Canelle Lebreton (Vendée) narrowly beat local Vanessa Perina (Club Local Mada Rida) with a score of 14.5 against 14.43 points. The Guadeloupeans Lara Glomet and Oana Duboscq took third and fourth places.
The public showed great support and emotion for Vanessa Perina, who had not participated in national competitions for a few years, “but whose technical mastery remains at a very high level,” Erwann Jadé pointed out.
In the junior categories, impressive performances were also observed. Among the boys, Kito Guessard (Zandoli Surf Club, Martinique) won thanks to his commitment on the nose and superb cut-backs, ahead of Vendéen Sacha Barreteau. Naël Grard and Luc Bier-Degouve, also members of the Martinique surf pole, finished third and fourth.
In the junior girls’ final, Naomi Jégou (Réunion) won the competition with a wave at 8 points, ahead of Guadeloupean Anna Malayika Danielou. Justine Troadec (Madinina Surf Club) and Marie Goulon (Zandoli Surf Club) finished third and fourth.
