Accused of Rape Gets Conditional Bail

Panaji: The North Goa District and Sessions Court has granted conditional bail to Mohammad Sadik Badiger, accused of raping a woman after promising to marry her. The court observed that the accused and the victim had a “consensual relationship”.

The Saligao police had registered a case against Badiger on December 11, 2024, based on a complaint filed by the victim. According to the complaint, the victim was already married with a child. However, Badiger, who had been befriending her since 2019, promised to marry her.

After Badiger assured her of marriage, the victim obtained a divorce from her husband on April 3, 2024. However, in September 2024, Badiger allegedly raped the victim after promising to marry her, and later severed ties with her.

Badiger had filed a bail application before the North Goa District and Sessions Court. His lawyer, Advocate Vinayak Porob, argued that the accused and the victim had a consensual relationship.

After hearing the arguments, Judge Irshad Agha observed that the accused and the victim had a consensual relationship. The court granted Badiger bail on a surety of ₹50,000 and other conditions, including appearing at the police station for 15 days.
