Canacona Mathagram United Pull Off Thrilling Last-Over Win; Priority Titans Dominate
Margao: The Alcon GSB Unity Cup T20 cricket tournament, organized by Goa GSB Sports & Charitable Trust in association with Goa Saraswat Samaj, witnessed two contrasting matches on Sunday at the MCC Ground, Margao. While Priority Titans cruised to a dominant win over Rising Stars of Antruz, Canacona Mathagram United edged out Sinq Rangers UC in a nail-biting finish.
In the first match, Rising Stars of Antruz, opting to bat first, struggled against the disciplined bowling attack of Priority Titans and were bowled out for a paltry 79 runs in 18.3 overs. Siddharth Ghanekar was awarded Man of the Match for delivering a stellar spell, taking 3 wickets for just 11 runs in his four-over spell, which included two maidens. Priority Titans made light work of the chase, reaching 83/2 in just 8.3 overs to register a comprehensive victory.
The second match turned out to be a thriller, with Canacona Mathagram United staging a dramatic last-over comeback against Sinq Rangers UC. Batting first, Sinq Rangers UC set a competitive target of 154/5 in 20 overs. In response, Canacona Mathagram United kept losing wickets at regular intervals but managed to take the chase deep.
Needing 17 runs off the final over, the tension soared when Annish Kaakode’s first ball went wide and raced to the boundary, adding five crucial runs. Another wide followed, before Kaushik Pai Fondekar struck a four, followed by a towering six, bringing the equation down to just one run from four balls. United sealed the win with a bye off the third legal delivery, sending their dugout into jubilation.
For his all-round performance (3 wickets and 21 runs), Sumiran Amonkar was named Man of the Match.
