Save Sinquerim Hill: Residents Vow to Fight Hotel Project Tooth and Nail”_

In a show of defiance, hundreds of residents from Sinquerim, Candolim, Calangta, and surrounding areas joined hands to form a human chain, vowing to oppose a proposed hotel project on Sinquerim hill.

The project, which has been leased to a hotel company at a rate of just Rs 2,000-2,500 per square meter annually, has sparked outrage among locals who claim that the land was acquired by the state government for public utility.

“We will fight this project till our last breath,” said a resident, echoing the sentiments of the crowd. “We will not let our hill be destroyed for the sake of greed and profit.”

Premand Divkar, President of the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF), was scathing in his criticism of the project. “The government has betrayed the trust of the people by leasing out this land to a hotel company. We will not rest until this project is scrapped and the land is returned to its rightful owners – the people of Goa.”

The controversy has also highlighted other contentious issues in the area, including the construction of a structure by Bollywood celebrity Salman Khan in a no-development zone, and the alleged attempt by the Archaeological Survey of India to build an illegal structure near the historic Aguada Fort.

As the battle to save Sinquerim hill heats up, one thing is clear: the residents are determined to fight for their rights and protect their community.
