PROTEST ERUPTS AGAINST KONKANI WRITER UDAY BHEMBRE OVER DEROGATORY COMMENTS ON CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ
A strong protest was lodged against Konkani writer Uday Bhembre at the Hindu Rashtra-Jagruti Sabha in Menkure, Dicholi, on March 3. The protest was sparked by Bhembre’s derogatory comments about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Hindavi Swarajya.
According to reports, Bhembre claimed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his army invaded Bardesh, looted homes, and abducted women. This statement was strongly condemned by attendees at the Hindu Rashtra-Jagruti Sabha, which was organized by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti at Shri Mauli Mandir.
Shri. Govind Chodankar, North Goa Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, emphasized the importance of teaching accurate history. “If the true history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had been included in the school curriculum after independence, no one would be able to find fault with writers who insult him today,” he said.
Chodankar also highlighted Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s significant contributions to Goa’s history, including gaining control over several talukas, conquering Kolwal Fort, and building Shri Saptakoteshwar Temple in Narve.
There is a growing demand for the Goa government to include the true history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the school curriculum.
