KANNADA ACTRESS RANYA RAO CAUGHT SMUGGLING GOLD WORTH RS 12 CRORE AT BENGALURU AIRPORT
Bengaluru, March 5, 2025: In a shocking incident, Kannada actress Ranya Rao was caught smuggling gold worth Rs 12 crore at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Monday.
According to officials, Ranya Rao, 32, was intercepted by a team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers at the airport, where she was found carrying gold bars concealed in her belt and clothing.
The actress, who is the daughter of Director General of Police (Police Housing Corporation) Ramachandra Rao, had arrived from Dubai on an Emirates flight. She was taken into custody and later produced in court, where she was remanded to judicial custody.
The DRI had been monitoring Ranya Rao’s frequent trips to Dubai, which reportedly included four visits in just 15 days. Investigators believe that she may have smuggled gold on previous occasions as well.
Ranya Rao’s father, Ramachandra Rao, has distanced himself from her, stating that they have not been in touch since her marriage four months ago.
The DRI is investigating whether any police personnel or an IPS officer related to Ranya Rao was involved in the gold smuggling operation. Officials are also probing whether she had trafficked gold on previous occasions.
Ranya Rao has acted in several Kannada films, including Maanikya, where she starred opposite Kannada superstar Sudeep.
