GOA GOVERNMENT GIVEN 15-DAY DEADLINE: MGP WORKERS DEMAND REPAIRS TO BHAU’S SAMADHI
Mapusa, March 12, 2025: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) workers in Mapusa have given the authorities an ultimatum to repair the samadhi (memorial) of late Dayanand “Bhau” Bandodkar, Goa’s first Chief Minister, within 15 days.
The MGP workers warned that if their demand is not met, they will take out a begging bowl (zholi) to collect funds for the repair work. This move is seen as a pressure tactic to prompt the authorities into action.
“We have been requesting the authorities to repair Bhau’s samadhi for months, but nothing has been done. We are now forced to take this step to ensure that the memorial of our beloved leader is restored to its former glory,” said an MGP worker.
The samadhi of Dayanand Bandodkar is a revered site for many Goans, and the MGP workers’ ultimatum has brought attention to the neglect of the memorial and the need for its immediate repair.
The demand comes on the day when Mapusa MLA led tributes to Bandodkar on his birth anniversary, remembering his immense contribution to Goa’s progress and development, particularly in the Mapusa region.
“Bhausaheb’s visionary leadership and dedication to Goa’s welfare have had a lasting impact on our town,” the MLA said. The tributes were attended by MMC Chairperson Priya Mishal, Vice Chairperson Sushant Harmalkar, and Councillors Ashirwad Khorjuvekar, Dr. Nutan Bicholkar,Shubhangi Vaigankar, and Viraj Phadke.
Bandodkar, who served as the first Chief Minister of Goa from 1963 to 1973, played a crucial role in shaping the state’s infrastructure and economy ¹. His legacy continues to be celebrated in Mapusa, where he is remembered as a pioneer who worked tirelessly for the development of the region.
