“SHROUDED IN DARKNESS: Commuters’ Nightmare on Old Mandovi Bridge”
PORVORIM: The Old Mandovi bridge, a critical connectivity link between Porvorim and Panaji, has plunged into darkness following the LED bulb failure after repair work commenced. This has left daily commuters from Porvorim and Betim areas struggling to cross the bridge safely.
The bridge has become an accident-prone zone, with most vehicles speeding or racing across. The absence of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras fitted to electric poles has made it challenging for police and investigating agencies to gather evidence and determine fault in the event of accidents.
Locals have also taken to reserving spots for fish angling during the winter season, occupying a significant portion of the bridge. Recently, a black scooter collided with an oncoming black two-wheeler in the darkness, leaving behind broken parts that still litter the spot.
Commuters have expressed concerns about the safety risks posed by the LED bulb failure and lack of CCTV surveillance, emphasizing the need for urgent attention from authorities to address these issues.
