New Delhi: Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, participated in the National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC) meeting chaired by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari. The meeting, held in New Delhi, saw participation from representatives of various coastal states and senior government officials.
The Government of India has undertaken multiple initiatives under the Sagarmala programme, focusing on port modernization, the strengthening of jetties to boost hinterland tourism and facilitate daily commutes, and promoting port-linked industrialization. These initiatives align with the Union Government’s vision of port-led development through enhanced exports under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
A significant aspect of the discussions was the development of coastal communities, with an emphasis on skill enhancement, social and financial inclusion, and overall economic growth. The meeting also explored new opportunities such as the introduction of Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) services and the Water Metro project to enhance connectivity and transportation in coastal regions.
The Sagarmala programme continues to play a crucial role in transforming India’s maritime sector, unlocking the potential of coastal infrastructure for sustainable economic development.
