TAXI WARS: Goa’s Cab Drivers Unite Against App-Based Aggregators
In a bold move, taxi owners and drivers from across Goa gathered at the Jamleshwar Temple Hall in Calangute to take a stand against the government’s promotion of app-based taxi services. The meeting, organized by Niz Goenkar Taxikars, brought the taxi community together to discuss their concerns and plan a unified response.
At the heart of the issue is the government’s launch of the “Goa Taxi” app, which has been met with fierce opposition from taxi operators. They claim that app-based taxi services will destroy their livelihoods and create unfair competition ¹.
“We’re not against technology or innovation, but we can’t let these app-based services ruin our lives,” said a taxi owner from Calangute. Another driver from Panaji added, “We urged the government to reconsider and work with us to find a solution that works for everyone.”
