Family Left Homeless as Gajanand Chari’s House Demolished in Socorro

Porvorim, Goa – March 27, 2025: In a dramatic turn of events, Gajanand Chari’s house in Socorro village panchayat was demolished under strong police protection on Thursday for allegedly violating construction guidelines.

The demolition was supervised by PWD officials, panchayat secretary, BDO Mamletdar, and police force. Chari claimed that they were provided with 100 sqm of land under the 20-point program initiated by the Indira Gandhi Awaz Yojana in the Socorro village panchayat jurisdiction.

However, Chari alleged that he was targeted for political revenge by the local MLA, who wanted to settle a score due to Chari’s association with another political party during elections. “I have been targeted because I worked against the present MLA during the elections,” Chari said.

The demolition left Chari’s family, including minor children and his son’s wife, in tears and without a home. Chari’s son, Nilesh, was also present at the scene, trying to salvage some of their belongings.

Chari also alleged that over 200 houses were sanctioned under the 20-point program, but only 170 were allotted legally, with the rest being illegal, reportedly due to the involvement of Maya Keni and Sandeep.

“I want to ask the authorities, why only my house was demolished? What about the other illegal houses in the area?” Chari questioned.

The demolition has raised questions about the fairness of the authorities’ actions and the plight of Chari’s family, who are now left without a home.
