Hot-Mixing of Roads Across Aldona Constituency Commences
MAPUSA: Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira on Monday formally inaugurated the commencement of resurfacing and hot-mixing works across the Aldona constituency in areas impacted by underground cabling projects. The inaugural function took place at Xell, Bastora, marking the beginning of long-pending road restoration efforts.
Speaking at the event, Adv. Ferreira acknowledged the hardships faced by residents due to roads being dug up for the laying of underground power cables. “There were complaints of dust pollution, and in some areas, the roads had sunk. However, with the 11kv power lines now laid underground, the constituency will benefit in the long run, particularly in terms of uninterrupted power supply during storms or tree fall incidents,” he said.
He further explained that the delay in road restoration was due to the pending issuance of the work order. “The file was stuck with the Chief Minister. Ten concerned citizens from the constituency had even served notice to the government, threatening to move the High Court if the restoration work wasn’t initiated. It was only after that the cabinet cleared and approved the works amounting to ₹13 crore for the constituencies of Aldona, Saligao, and Calangute,” he said.
Assuring residents of other villages, Ferreira added, “Work in remaining parts of the constituency will also be taken up shortly. I appeal to people to be patient. I am approachable and open to both suggestions and criticism. I am here to serve and learn from you all.”
He also extended his gratitude to the local residents, panchayat members, and department engineers for their cooperation in facilitating the works.
