ROAD CLOSURE CAUSES DISRUPTION IN SALIGAO AND CALANGUTE
Saligao: The Pilerne-Saligao road via Saligao seminary has been closed to four-wheeler traffic due to ongoing pipeline work for a new water treatment plant. The closure has affected commuters and vehicles traveling to and from the Pilerne industrial estate and coastal belt.
The road closure has thrown traffic out of gear, with commuters facing difficulties navigating through the area. The Chogm road has also been affected, with one lane closed for pipeline work.
The pipeline work is part of a larger project to improve water supply in the Calangute-Candolim tourism hub. The project involves sourcing water from the Tillari project and constructing a water treatment plant and pumping station.
PWD officials have stated that the pipeline work is expected to be completed before the monsoon. Once completed, the project is expected to improve water supply in the area.
Candolim villagers have urged the panchayat members to build overhead water tanks in Candolim to store water, citing the lack of current water storage facilities in the area.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has been pursuing the project to improve water supply in the area.
