Two K’taka Kayakers Among Eight Rescued From Drowning Off Palolem beach Over Weekend by Drishti Marine Lifesavers

 

~ Lifesavers rescued eight persons from drowning, conducted two first-aid interventions and reunited two missing children with their parents over the weekend.

 

Panaji, April 14 – Drishti Marine lifesavers carried out three double rescues along the state’s coastline, while saving two kayakers from Karnataka drowning off Palolem beach over the weekend. The period also saw two children who had gone missing on the state’s beaches united with their parents, including one instance in which a five-year-old child wandered off on Baga beach, while the parents were away shopping.

 

Palolem beach: Two kayakers from Karwar and Bengaluru were paddling in the sea off Palolem beach, when their kayaks capsized, forcing Drishti Marine lifesaver Parashuram Tari to immediately stage a rescue operation. He brought both the kayakers to shore with the help of a jet ski.

 

Anjuna beach: Two 21-year-old male tourists from Chandigarh, who were non-swimmers, waded into the sea off Anjuna beach and panicked when they could not handle the water levels nearly 25 metres from the shore. Lifesaver Siddesh Chodankar spotted their distress and rescued them using a rescue board.

 

Mandrem beach: Off the Mandrem shore, two Russian women aged 60 and 62 years got caught in a current while swimming. A coordinated rescue was executed by Suresh (on rescue tube), Ana (on rescue board) and Vikram Talkar (on jetski). Both were brought ashore safely.

 

Agonda beach: Off Agonda beach, two children from Israel, an eight-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, were separated from their mother after a wave struck them. Lifesaver Dinesh Velip valiantly swam out 30 metres with a rescue tube and brought them ashore safely. At the same beach, a 21-year-old man staying in Palolem was visiting the beach with his parents, when he suffered severe leg cramps. Lifesavers evacuated him using a spine board and handed him over to medical authorities who had been summoned for assistance.

 

Baga beach: A five-year-old child from Uttar Pradesh, left in the care of a relative while parents went shopping, wandered off on his own at Baga beach. He was later traced by lifesaver Oscar a short distance away. The child was safely returned to the parents after verification.

 

Baina beach: A child who had gone missing at Baina beach was traced and reunited with the mother by Drishti Marine lifesaver Sarabjeet.

 

Calangute beach: A 17-year-old youngster from Delhi playing in the waters off Calangute lost his balance and injured his leg. Lifesavers Vinod and Chandangiri promptly brought him ashore with a spine board and administered him first aid. He was suspected to have fractured his leg.
