Arrest accused in Pernem Dalit girl case within 2 days, Dr Khalap tells CM
Panaji: Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Pratiksha Khalap on Friday strongly condemned the shocking incident of molestation and caste-based abuse against a 17-year-old Dalit girl in Pernem. She expressed deep concern over the delay in police action and demanded swift justice for the victim. Khalap called for immediate arrest of the absconding accused and strict punishment under relevant laws, urging authorities to ensure such atrocities are never repeated.
“For centuries, our country has progressed based on the principles of Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr Babasahab Ambedkar. However, it appears that the present BJP government has destroyed these principles. Chhtrapati’s four pillars for establishing Swaraj in our country were truth, Justice, policy and women protection. However, on the day the country celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti, a minor Dalit girl in a Pernem village faced atrocity. Her clothes were torn and she was humiliated due to her caste,” she said.
“Goans need to open their eyes to the truth this government is hiding. Time has come for us to raise our voice or else this will happen to us. Are we living in pre-Independence era? Women as well as those from the weaker and Dalit communities are facing atrocities by this BJP government,” Khalap said.
“The government is using the police and other authorities to silence the voice of the opposition. The police failed to provide protection to the victim girl and also failed to register an FIR despite 2 days of the incident. The FIR was only registered after locals protested. The perpetrator has not been arrested despite 5 days since the crime occurred. Does this accused have some backing that he is protected and police can’t locate him. I challenge the CM and the police to arrest the accused within 2 days, or else, we will stage a protest with the villagers,” she said.
