“Journalism is the Mirror of Democracy: IFWJ President Bhargava”
Kovalam (Kerala). Addressing the 143rd National Convention of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists in the auditorium of the Animation Center, Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, National President Awadhesh Bhargava said that journalism is the mirror of democracy. Journalists often hide their pain while showcasing society’s condition and direction.
He said that the Central Government should form a Press Commission for the benefit of journalists. While raising his voice for the implementation of the Journalist Security Guarantee Act to stop continuous criminal attacks on journalists, attacks by the police administration, and murders, he raised the issue of not granting bail to culprits for at least one year. All representatives were also asked to put pressure on the Central Government through their respective MPs and public representatives in writing on these issues.
Deputy Speaker of the Kerala Assembly, Gopa Kumar, while addressing the journalists, praised them for their contribution to society and assured them that he would provide a letter supporting the formation of a Press Commission and the implementation of the Journalist Safety Guarantee Act. State Minister T N Suresh also assured cooperation in the interest of journalists.
On this occasion, the State President of Bihar Press Men’s Union, Anmol Kumar; State Vice President and Member of the National Working Committee, Bhola Prasad; State Secretary and Member of the National Working Committee, Awadhesh Kumar Sharma; National General Secretary of IFWJ, Irshad Khan; National Vice President, GB Gauri; National Treasurer, NP Agarwal; Giriraj Banjaria from Madhya Pradesh; Ram Lakhan Gupta, Hemant Tripathi, Puja Yadav, and Suresh Chandra Pandey from Uttar Pradesh; Bharat Betkekar from Goa; Deepaji Mani from Himachal Pradesh; Sulochana from Uttarakhand; Shailesh Kumar from Assam; and Bhagwan Ji from Delhi, apart from a large number of journalists from various states, gathered and were honored with shawls and certificates.
