MORMUGAO PORT AUTHORITY TESTS OIL SPILL RESPONSE IN COMPREHENSIVE MOCK DRILL
Vasco, Goa – The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) conducted a mock exercise to test its preparedness and response mechanisms in the event of an oil spill. The drill simulated an oil spill scenario involving the oil carrying vessel MT Deshbhakt, which was allegedly experiencing technical issues while offloading oil at the MPA port in Vasco, leading to a fire.
The exercise was participated by Captain MPA, Shri Akash Kumar, Goa Coast Guard, Shri Devendr Singh, Assistant Information Officer, Shri Nikhil Prajakte, Mamlatdar Salcete, Shri Krishna Gawas, Pilot MPA Shri Subramaniam, Assistant Director Tourism, Shri Pradip Binnar, and officers from line departments.
The MPA’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness and response is commendable, and such exercises are essential in ensuring the port’s readiness to handle emergencies. The successful execution of the drill demonstrated the MPA’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the port and the surrounding environment.
