Oil Spill Drill Simulates Real-Life Crisis: Agencies Test Response Mechanisms”

Panaji, Goa – The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) recently conducted a comprehensive mock exercise to test its preparedness and response mechanisms in the event of an oil spill. The drill simulated an oil spill scenario at the MPA’s Headland Sada, Vasco, where a fuel pipe burst while unloading oil, causing oil to spill and flow down to Caranzalem Beach in Panaji.

The exercise saw participation from various agencies and departments, including the Indian Coast Guard, Forest Department, and local authorities. Key officials involved in the drill included Incident Commander Deputy Collector Panaji, Shri. Vinayak S. Chari, Deputy Collector Disaster Management Panaji, Shri. Suyash Khandeparkar, and representatives from IOCL, HPCL, BPL, APDA Mitras, and other stakeholders.

The mock drill aimed to assess the coordination and response capabilities of the participating agencies in containing and mitigating the effects of an oil spill. The exercise demonstrated the MPA’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the port and the surrounding environment.
