“Calangute Constituency Forum Slams Destruction of Beach Vegetation”
A protest was held at Khobravaddo, Calangute, against the destruction of beach vegetation by M/s Ashwin Holdings. Despite a Suo Moto Case by the High Court in 2021, the developers allegedly destroyed vegetation in the coastal area.
“We will not stand idly by while our coastal ecosystems are destroyed,” said presidentof the forum Premanad Divkar . “It’s imperative that authorities take immediate action to protect our environment.”
The Citizens’ Coalition for Fundamental Rights (CCF) organized the protest, demanding that authorities stop issuing permissions for development activities within 0-200 meters of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
“The GCZMA and other authorities must enforce environmental regulations strictly,” emphasized CCF members. “Unchecked development is threatening our very existence.”
The protest aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and to push for stricter enforcement of environmental regulations.
