“Faldessai Lays Foundation Stone for ₹38 Crore Daujim Overbridge, Pledges to Ease Traffic Congestion”

PANAJI: Fulfilling a vision after he was elected legislator, Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the much-anticipated Daujim Overbridge near the Daujim Railway Crossing.
Present were Sarpanches Medha Parvatkar, Smita Swant, Sachin Gaude, Kusta Salelkar, Panch Members Nandakumar Shet, Vinda Joshi, Sapna Bhomkar, Vishwas Kuttikar, Sarika Naik, Anjali Chodankar, Luciano Baptista Pereira, officials from Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and other dignitaries.
The overbridge project, to be constructed at a total cost of Rs 38 crore, marks a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the area, Faldessai said.
“I thank Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. People used to suffer immensely. Those who travel for work right from Amona, and even students, would bear the brunt. Huge queues of vehicles would be witnessed at this spot and hence it was a need of the hour. Even ambulances would get stuck for nearly 30 minutes at this crossing. My only vision when I became MLA was to construct this overbridge. Ever since I was elected MLA, I have been continuously following up on this overbridge project, even with the Chief Minister. We plan to complete the overbridge by December,” he said.
Faldessai said that land acquired for the project is 20 metres in breadth while the span of the bridge will be 12 metres, and the length will be 700 metres.
“Whatever trees need to be cut have been marked, which is a small number, and we will replant new trees to compensate for this loss. Traffic diversion via PDA and Banastarim will cause some issues, but we are trying to get permission to use a portion of private land to divert traffic. But eventually this road will have to be blocked at a further stage to speed up the work,” he said.
Faldessai said that many more projects are in the pipeline.
“Work on the new police station building has commenced. In the next few days, we will lay the foundation stone for the Cumbharjua ground that will be developed at a cost of Rs 4.5 crores. I thank the Chief Minister for his support towards our constituency,” he added.
