WATER WOES SPARK PROTEST: Anjuna Residents March to PWD Office Demanding Relief

Mapusa: A sea of frustrated faces poured onto the streets of Dattawaddi as hundreds of Anjuna residents, led by local leaders, staged a scathing protest march to the Public Works Department (PWD) office. The demonstrators, comprising women, children, and elderly citizens, demanded an immediate end to the acute water shortage plaguing their area.

Carrying placards and banners with poignant slogans, the protesters highlighted the dire situation, alleging that the water crisis has been a persistent problem in Anjuna, with many households struggling to access clean drinking water for daily needs. “We’re forced to shell out hard-earned cash for tanker water, which is a massive burden on our pockets,” said a frustrated resident. “We demand the PWD takes concrete action to resolve the water shortage and ensures a regular supply of clean drinking water to our area.”

The protesters submitted a strongly-worded memorandum to PWD officials, urging them to take immediate action. The officials assured the protesters that their demands would be taken up with higher authorities and efforts would be made to resolve the issue at the earliest.

PWD officials promised to send a team to Anjuna to assess the situation and work out a plan to improve the water supply. However, the residents warned that if their demands aren’t met, they’ll be forced to take further agitation.

The protest highlights the need for authorities to take proactive steps to address the water shortage issue in Anjuna. Will the PWD deliver on its promises, or will the residents’ plight continue? Only time will tell.
