SAUNTAVADDO WINS CALANGUTE ASSOCIATION INTER-WARD FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT FINAL, DEFEATS GAURAVADDO EAST 2-0
Calangute, – In a thrilling finale, Sauntavaddo emerged victorious over Gauravaddo, winning the Calangute Association inter-ward football trophy. The match, held at the Poriat ground, saw Sauntavaddo score two crucial goals, securing a 2-0 win over their opponents. The goals were scored by Pedro Gonsalves and Vasudev Redkar, showcasing the team’s exceptional skill and teamwork.
The first half of the match was intense, with both teams creating scoring opportunities through swift counter-attacks and clever passing. Sauntavaddo’s defense held strong, with their goalkeeper making several key saves to deny Gauravaddo’s attackers. The first half ended with Sauntavaddo taking the lead, through Vasudev Redkar’s fierce strike, with both teams evenly matched.
In the second half, Sauntavaddo’s midfielders dominated possession, using their pressing game to win the ball back quickly and launch swift counter-attacks. Pedro Gonsalves’ clinical finish sealed the win for Sauntavaddo, doubling their lead and making it 2-0.
The prizes were distributed by Chief Guest Head Coach of the India U-19 men’s team Shri. Bibiano Fernandes, who praised the teams for their sportsmanship and skill. “It’s heartening to see the young talent and teamwork on display here today. The future of Indian football looks bright with players like these,” said Shri. Fernandes.
The finale was also attended by several distinguished guests and dignitaries, including PI Calangute police station Shri. Paresh Naik, Sarpanch of Village Panchayat of Calangute Shri. Joseph Sequeira, and Ward Member of Village Panchayat of Calangute Savio Gonsalves, Ward members Paulo Mathias, Social worker Ashton Santamaria, PI Traffic Cell Brendan Dsouza, and Arjun Awardee, Bruno Coutinho.

Awards were presented to outstanding players, including Vasu from Sauntavaddo as the first goal scorer, Tukaram from Sauntavaddo as the best defender, Pratesh from Gauravaddo as the best half player, Saish from Sauntavaddo as the best forward, Philip from Sauntavaddo as the best goalkeeper, and Xavier from Sauntavaddo was the Man of the Match, with the award presented by former national player Anthony D’Souza.
