Pandharpur’s Varkari Tradition Comes Alive at Shri Shanta Vidyalaya”

Sancoale, Goa – Shri Shanta Vidyalaya, a school run by Vidya Bharati, celebrated the auspicious occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi with great fervor. The school’s Principal, Shri Vishwas Sangale, teachers, non-teaching staff, and students were present on this occasion.

The program began with the chanting of “Jay Jay Ramakrishna Hari” and the lighting of the lamp. To commemorate Ashadhi Ekadashi, the students, under the guidance of teacher Smt. Siddhi Shirgavkar, presented a “Dindi” performance on stage, which was a huge hit with the audience. The performance brought to life the spirit of Pandharpur’s Varkari tradition, showcasing the students’ devotion and discipline.

 

The students, dressed in traditional attire, marched onto the stage, carrying symbols of the Varkari tradition, such as the tal, mridang, and bhajans. They reenacted the journey of the Varkaris, singing abhangs and performing oovalanis, creating a vivid picture of the Pandharpur Wari.

 

The stage was decorated with colorful decorations, saffron flags, flower garlands, and traditional instruments, creating a devotional atmosphere. The students chanted “Vitthal Vitthal Jay Hari Vitthal,” spreading joy and enthusiasm among the audience.

 

The school’s Principal, teachers, and parents praised the students’ performance, highlighting the importance of such events in instilling devotion, cultural awareness, and unity among students.

 

As part of the celebrations, the school also organized a devotional song competition, where many students showcased their melodious voices by singing abhangs. Teachers Shri Suresh Kerkar, Shri Sangam Chodankar, and Smt. Shambhavi Joshi also delivered outstanding performances, mesmerizing the audience and creating a devotional atmosphere.

 

The primary section of the school also participated in the celebrations, with students dressing up as Varkaris, saints, and Vitthala Mauli, and performing a Dindi procession in the village of Sancoale.

 

The program was conducted under the guidance of teacher Shri Sangam Chodankar, and the proceedings were anchored by student Kumari Shreyasi Mahalkar, with Shri Sangam Chodankar delivering the vote of thanks.
