Swedish Duo Makes History with Quarterfinal Spot in Gstaad

The talented Swedish pair of Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson have advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Championship tournament in Gstaad, marking a historic achievement for the duo. The 20- and 18-year-old pair dominated their round of 16 match against Swiss pair Marco Krattiger and Leo Diller, winning in straight sets 21-16, 23-21.

“We’ve never been this far in an Elite 16 competition before,” said Elmer Andersson in an interview with SVT. “We’ve beaten better teams in terms of opposition, so we’re feeling confident.”

The duo recently won a World Tour competition in Malmö at the Challenger level, but this marks a significant step up to the Elite 16 level, the highest level on the World Tour. Their quarterfinal opponents will be Brazilian pair Evandro and Arthur Lanci on Saturday.

“We just need to go in and perform even better than today,” said Andersson, highlighting the team’s growing momentum.

Notably, Sweden’s Olympic champions David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig are not participating in the tournament due to Hellvig’s ongoing abdominal muscle injury.
