“Goans Condemn ‘Undeclared Emergency’, Burn Circular on Emergency in Schools”
PANAJI: A gathering of Goans and social activists under the banner of “Citizens of Goa” converged at Azad Maidan to condemn the alleged “undeclared emergency” and criticize the government’s efforts to introduce discussions on Emergency in schools.
Addressing the media, social activists including Mr. Mhambre, Hrudai Nath, Anthony Silva, and Ms. Pratima C, expressed concerns that politicians were trying to “pollute and poison” young minds by imposing such topics in schools. They argued that this was an attempt to indoctrinate students with a biased perspective.
The activists highlighted the Gujarat model’s failures, citing several instances of bridge collapses and infrastructure failures in the state. They also pointed out the alarming number of road fatalities due to potholes.
Condemning the circular being circulated among schools, educational institutions, and colleges on Emergency, the activists urged the government not to “spoil” young minds during their education. Asserting their democratic right to protest, they criticized the heavy police presence at the gathering.
In a symbolic gesture, the activists burned the circular on the occasion, reiterating their opposition to the government’s actions.
