Heli Monde France: A sense of tranquility pervades the garden at Héliomonde, a naturist campsite in Essonne, just outside Paris. For Christoph, a 54-year-old German-born hairdresser and long-time resident, this haven is more than just a place to relax – it’s home.
Christoph has spent nine years living in the Héliomonde village-campsite, a 47-hectare wooded area that offers a peaceful escape from the city. However, the campsite’s future is uncertain after it was bought by Capfun in June. The new owners plan to abandon the naturist model and introduce clothing on January 1st, sparking outrage among residents.
“I’m very proud of my garden, which I enhanced myself,” Christoph says, wearing a cap and blue birkenstock hat. “It wouldn’t have been possible in a textile environment.” Christoph is one of around 180 annual residents who have made Héliomonde their home, some for decades.
The community is rallying to save their haven, citing the unique environment and sense of freedom that naturism provides. “Here, the human footprint is invisible, and phone reception is very poor,” Christoph adds, highlighting the campsite’s tranquil atmosphere.
As the deadline looms, residents are fighting to preserve their way of life and protect the campsite’s naturist ethos. The fate of Héliomonde hangs in the balance, and its residents are determined to make their voices heard.
