Goa Set to Resume Mining Operations: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant
Porvorim: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the state legislative assembly that mining operations in Goa are slated to commence smoothly by October 2025. The state government has also announced plans to initiate mining dump auctions starting October 2025, with four mine owners already expressing interest in participating.
According to Sawant, the auctions will allow companies to bid for low-grade iron ore dumps, with the government expecting to generate substantial revenue from the process. The state has identified around 30-40 iron ore mining dumps for auction, anticipating earnings of Rs 400-500 crore.
To participate in the e-auction, bidders must submit a dump handling plan and provide a bank guarantee equivalent to the estimated cost of handling waste. The successful bidder will be required to start dump handling within 180 days, failing which the government reserves the right to re-auction the dumps and blacklist the bidder.
The Goa government has been working towards reviving the mining industry, which was halted in 2012 and resumed in 2024. With the Supreme Court allowing dump mining activity, the state is set to benefit from the auction of low-grade iron ore dumps ¹ ².
