Goa’s Leap Towards Sustainable Waste Management: CM Inaugurates Hazardous Waste Facility
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage & Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF) at Pissurlem Industrial Estate, Sattari. The facility, developed by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) in collaboration with Ponda Envocare Limited (PEL), marks a crucial milestone in the state’s efforts to manage hazardous waste effectively.
The CHWTSDF is designed to handle hazardous waste generated from industries in Goa, ensuring safe storage, treatment, and disposal. This facility will help mitigate the environmental and health risks associated with improper hazardous waste disposal.
The project reflects the Goa government’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. Dr. Sawant has been emphasizing the importance of scientific and time-bound waste management practices in Goa.
The Goa Waste Management Corporation has been actively working towards improving waste management in the state. Recent initiatives include the approval of the E-Waste Policy 2024 to promote sustainable waste management practices and a partnership with GAIL to set up a 150 tons per day waste processing plant in Goa.
The inauguration of the CHWTSDF is a significant step towards achieving Goa’s waste management goals and promoting a cleaner, greener environment.
