Reshuffle Rocks Goa: Sequeira Out, Kamat and Tawadkar In”
In a significant cabinet reshuffle, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s government witnessed major changes yesterday, with Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira tendering his resignation due to personal reasons. Following Sequeira’s exit, former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar are set to be inducted into the cabinet.
The swearing-in ceremony for the two new ministers is scheduled to take place today at 12 pm at Raj Bhavan. Tawadkar, who will resign as Speaker, and Kamat, a strong political leader from Margao, will fill the vacancies created by Sequeira’s resignation and the earlier departure of Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude.
Aleixo Sequeira, who held the Environment, Law and Judiciary, and Legislative Affairs portfolios, cited personal reasons for his resignation, thanking Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for the opportunity to serve.
Digambar Kamat, a former Chief Minister, and Ramesh Tawadkar, the current Assembly Speaker, will join the cabinet, with Ganesh Gaonkar, MLA from Sanvordem, likely to take over as the new Speaker.
The cabinet reshuffle is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to strengthen its presence in the state, ahead of key elections and festivals, including Ganesh Chaturthi.
