Clearing Mapusa River of Water Hyacinth begins, Adv Carlos thanks govt
MAPUSA: Aldona Congress MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira announced the clearing of the Mapusa River at the Tar junction of the Water Hyacinth that has exploded completely filling up the River.
Speaking at the site, where work has already begun, Adv Carlos thanked the Water Resource Department and their officials for the timely intervention ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, which he said will be hugely beneficial for the people.
I am at the Tar bridge in Mapusa and we are desilting to remove the water hyacinth. This is a site for the immersion of Ganesh idols that witnesses heavy rush during the immersion of the Ganapati idols and if it is not clean then it is trouble for the people,” he said.
“So every year I request the WRD department and they come with the machine. I wish to thank the Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant, WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar and Chief Engineer WRD Salelkar, EE Milind, AE Vinoo, JE Reshma and Avinash Ajgaonkar the always smiling man who comes and takes a look draws up estimates and helps get the work done,” he said.
“After this we will be moving to Bastora in Xell and also at the site near Siddeshwar temple,” he also said.
He informed that the Mapusa River is tendered for cleaning and desilting for a stretch of 9km between Guririm and Moira, but the inauguration was postponed on account of the Ahmedabad Air India crash and not yet rescheduled. “So I requested them that we should not wait for the inauguration but start with the work,” he said.
“These are important sites and people should not be affected. Especially during the time of Ganesh Chaturthi,” he also said.
